The Softening

Two weeks came and went and Sam had already proven himself to be a million-dollar baby, Charlie even going so far as to make the movie reference about him to all the other employees. It was Sam’s go-against-the flow idea to set up tiny websites that would serve as portals for business to travel through in efforts to advertise indirectly on massive social media networks. The other employees laughed at him when he proposed it and laughed harder when he tried to do it. But inside of three days, his stupid little idea had generated enough money to pay his salary for the next ten years.

No one was laughing at him now. And Charlie was growing attached to him very quickly. Three nights ago, she took him out for drinks to say thank you to him. They got so drunk that they ended up in his meager little apartment for the night. The next day, they both called in sick and remained in bed until dinner time. And somewhere in the midst of the shots of tequila and the fondling between covers, they got to the discussion of romantic partners. But Charlie was reluctant to speak of her ex-husband and Sam never pressed the conversation about him. She did, however, reveal that her aggressive nature about work, love and life – in that order always, came from her failed marriage.

Charlie was the type of guy who was nice enough to allow her to be herself at all times – even when he had to succumb to things that weren’t really who he was … or so he thought. Sam’s time in Charlie’s employment and care, had made him a little submissive. And they both realized that something was there. Sam had spent several office meetings on his knees in front of Charlie and up her skirt. And Charlie had returned the favor, always taking the elevator down with him at the end of each day, stopping it between the second and third floors for ten minutes as she dirtied her knee caps and put a smile on his face.

It was late Friday afternoon of that second week of Sam’s new employment. And as she had done practically every day with him so far, Charlie called him into her office before they left for the weekend. But this meeting wasn’t intended to get a quick rise out of him. Instead, Charlie had another proposition for him that would require a third interview, of sorts.

“What are you doing this weekend, baby?” Charlie asked, closing the door to her office and lowering the blinds.

“Nothing,” Sam said, unaware of what she was about to suggest.

“So what are you doing this weekend, baby?” Charlie asked again, this time with a more direct tone to get him to respond with what she wanted to hear.

“I’m doing whatever you tell me to, Miss Thunder,” Sam said, then lowering his chin when she walked up to him with raised eyebrows. “I mean … Mommy.”

“That’s a little more like it,” she said, tapping the front of his chin with her fingernail.
